Bo Thrasher is a long-time supporter of Outward Bound, a former staff member, and a volunteer with Northwest Outward Bound School. Bo is a champion for our work and motivated to help us reach more students in the Methow Valley. She shared about her experience being part of the NWOBS community.
How did you first get involved with NWOBS?
I used to work at HIOBS in Maine, and so when I was teaching in Bellingham, I decided to work over at the Mazama base camp during the summers. I loved driving over the pass to Mazama and now I’ve lived here for 27 years.
What is your favorite NWOBS memory or experience?
So many memories! Battling the wind on Ross Lake, solo far up north near the PCT, sunsets and sunrises in the mountains, students making coffee for the instructors, graduation where you can tell that there’s been a difference made by seeing the students’ smiles and confidence.
What do you love about the NWOBS community?
NWOBS connects so many over a common love for experiential learning in the backcountry and love of the natural world, and somehow making a difference. It’s a strong and vital community of old and current instructors in the valley. Some of my closest friends I met while instructing and the same is true for my husband!
Volunteers Needed!
NWOBS is seeking passionate individuals like Bo who are eager to lend a helping hand. Throughout the year, we’ll have various opportunities for you to get involved and support our work.
If you’re interested in making a difference and becoming part of our volunteer team, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out and let us know you’re ready to get involved.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a positive impact in our community.
