School’s growth and programming initiatives expand in the Pacific Northwest.
Portland, OR, August 8, 2018 — Northwest Outward Bound School has named Marc Heisterkamp Executive Director. “Marc joins the school as we look to broaden our reach and further develop and build strong relationships within the communities we serve,” said Dan Mahoney, Co-Board Chair. “As we grow our leadership team and presence within the Pacific Northwest, Marc’s experience and skills will lead us strategically towards accomplishing our goals, including deepening our work with public school systems and applying our model to corporate trainings and professional development.” The role of Executive Director will also include driving the initiatives with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, ensuring that the transformative experiences offered can be adapted and available to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or socioeconomic background.
The School conducted a national search and selection process to fill the position of chief executive. Marc comes to the Northwest Outward Bound School from serving as the Vice President of Strategic Relationships for the U.S. Green Building Council, where he focused on strategy and organizational growth to build key relationships for the fast growing and influential global non-profit.
Marc, a Washington native and long-time Oregon resident, references the transformational learning he experienced with wilderness programs during his formative years. “I understand first-hand the character building, leadership development and overall impact that these types of educational experiences can have on students. Northwest Outward Bound School leads the way in doing this through both expedition-level trips as well as through city-based programs at underserved schools — it doesn’t matter if it occurs in the woods or in the city. I am excited to help lead Northwest Outward Bound School in broadening and deepening the School’s impact in the Pacific Northwest,” Marc said.
