Our friends at Tofurky are facing an exciting challenge. Demand for plant-based foods has absolutely EXPLODED, with sales of plant-based foods surpassing $4.5 billion per year. The family-owned business was one of the earliest innovators in the plant-based foods space, starting out by selling tempeh in 1980 and debuting their now-famous holiday roast in 1995. (Fun fact: They’ve now sold over 5 million Tofurky roasts!) With demand for their products growing so quickly in recent years, Tofurky knows that they will need to think outside the box in order to get their meat-free treats in the hands of everyone who wants them.
That’s why they decided to do things a little differently at their fall senior leadership retreat. Before diving into budgets and planning for the year ahead, the Tofurky team joined a pair of NW Outward Bound School instructors at a ropes course for a day of outdoor play and challenge. The morning started with some icebreakers to get the energy flowing and build camaraderie. Then the group ventured out to the low ropes elements for some group initiatives, which not only provide some physical challenge but also require clear communication and seamless teamwork. After lunch the group progressed to high ropes elements that provided opportunities for individuals to step outside their comfort zone while their teammates cheered them on from below. Throughout the day the group took time to reflect on the various challenges and activities and note how those experiences connect to their work and dynamics inside the office. After spending a day testing their limits and celebrating victories, the team was able to go into their strategic planning sessions with renewed energy and excitement for the challenges ahead.
Big thanks to Tofurky for partnering with Outward Bound Professional! We’re excited to see them continue to blaze trails in the plant-based foods market.
